Event Highlights: Rio Hondo College hosted National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey at its Advanced Transportation Technology & Energy (ATTE) Center in the Automotive Technology Quad. The event attracted more than forty members of the local community, which included Rio Hondo students, teachers, and administrators; secondary and post-secondary school students; teachers and administrators; automotive dealerships and corporate personnel; governmental and environmental organizations; and local citizens. Six alternative fuel vehicles, including a hydrogen-assisted vehicle, were displayed and were available for a ride-and-drive around the campus roads. The local San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps brought some of its brightest students to confirm their commitment to clean fuel and energy technology.

Event Highlights: Rio Hondo College’s National AFV Day Odyssey event was held at the Whittier Narrows Recreation area where attendees were informed about green solutions in transportation. Vehicles on display included several types of hybrid autos, electric motorcycles, and CNG-powered vehicles. Advertisement for the event was through local news media, a local radio station and Congresswoman Hilda Solice’s office. One highlight of the event was the presentation to the college by Congresswoman Hilda Solice in support of the efforts of the Clean Cities Partnership.

Event Highlights: Held on the campus of Rio Hondo College, students and advisors were bused in from surrounding campuses to learn more about alternative fuel options and environmentally friendly vehicle choices. Presentations were held in order to provide students with a better understanding of the viable options of alternative fuels currently available to consumers today, mainstreaming sustainable transportation options, real world challenges, and the production of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and their current and upcoming initiatives and product lines. Those in attendance were also provided with free popcorn and a brown bag lunch.
